Have you reached for your second packet of biscuits, gone through pack of those cheese puffs in just a few hours?
Are you shocked at yourself because you have finished all your wine in one week?
Do you see foresee a situation where all your groceries are depleted before we even know if lockdown will end or continue?
Rest assured we are all in this together.
As the entire country sits in lockdown as the government tries to curb the spread of Covid-19, experts fear that many will gain weight as they comfort eat their way through the lockdown.
The Association for Dietetics in South Africa most people respond to stress by comfort eating. The organization it was concerned because the country already had a high prevalence of obesity.
“According to statistics, obesity rates are increasing rapidly, with almost 70% of women and 40% of men either overweight or obese.
It said it was highly likely that South Africans will comfort eat during the national lockdown.
“If we do comfort eat for these three weeks, it will not bode well for the health of our citizens.
Here are some tips to avoid overeating and just eating right:
· No take-away foods.
· No home deliveries.
· No hot counter meals.
· No restaurant fare.
For now, and the foreseeable future, Covid-19 has us all cooking from home, seven days a week.
